Hounslow's Promise
Supporting Children and Young People in the Borough of Hounslow
Hounslow's Promise is possible thanks to the kind sponsorship of our partners
Our Story
Hounslow's Promise is a borough-wide initiative set up by the Member of Parliament for Feltham in partnership with Cranford Community College, with input from schools, businesses, councillors, members of Hounslow Youth Council and community organisations.
Established in 2019, the charity was at the forefront of supporting young people in the Borough of Hounslow during the COVID-19 lockdown by providing laptops and tablets to those struggling with continuing their education due to online teaching. Over 280 laptops were donated to schools in 2023.
Our initiative is based on the belief that all children and young people should have the right tools and opportunities to learn and thrive. We believe that the whole community shares a responsibility to help young people succeed.
Inspired by the successful 'America's Promise', it is centred on a vision of 'Five Pledges' to be made and kept to the young people of Hounslow.
Our Five Promises
Hounslow's Promise sends a simple message of aspiration: that every young person is valued, that all young people should be supported to accomplish their goals and that no young person should be left behind.
A NETWORK OF CARING ADULTS
We need a network of caring adults and mentors around our young people.
Parents are at the centre of caring for children and need our support. However, young people also need caring adults in all aspects of their life, including: school, the community, and their extended families. Caring adults in a young person's life can also include teachers, neighbours, coaches and mentors.
SAFE SPACES AND FACILITIES
Our young people need a safe space to develop intellectually, both physically and emotionally, so that they can explore and grow without fear and/or stress, both online and offline.
SUPPORT OUR TEACHERS
Hounslow's 1,200 teachers work incredibly hard but are becoming increasingly more stretched; they need the support of the community to be able to do their best for their students.
A HEALTHY START
Our children need a healthy start; Hounslow's Promise is committed to ensuring that children get the nutrition and nurturing they need to get a fair start in life and to alleviate the poverty that too many children in Hounslow suffer.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP
We want to provide our young people with opportunities to help others, enabling them to grow to be leaders and proud citizens who in turn give something back to the community that supported them.
We want our young people to feel empowered and that they are in control of their own destiny, as well as encouraging them to care for others.
